CCFES High School Pathway Program

Building the Next Generation of First Responders

Student in class outdoorsSince 2017, Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) has led the way with an innovative, one-of-a-kind Fire & EMS High School Pathway Program—a community-driven initiative designed to prepare local high school students for a meaningful and impactful career in public safety.

This unique three-year program—developed in partnership with the Clayton County Public School System, Board of Commissioners, Georgia Department of Education, and the Georgia Firefighter Standards & Training Council—bridges the gap between education and career, equipping students with real-world certifications and hands-on experience in fire and emergency services.

Program Highlights

Real Career Skills While in High School

Students begin their journey with an introduction to public safety during their freshman or sophomore year. By junior year, they’re training in Firefighter I skills. In their senior year, students dive into EMT certification coursework taught by certified professionals.

Ride-Alongs & Practical Experience

Senior students participate in supervised EMS ride-alongs and weekend Fire Explorer sessions to fulfill their clinical and skills training requirements.

Explorer Post 701 – A Nationally Recognized Program

The Fire & EMS Pathway Program is proudly connected to the Boy Scouts of America Explorer Post 701, which provides students with structured opportunities to learn, serve, and lead within the fire and emergency services profession. Through this affiliation, students not only gain hands-on skills and mentorship from career firefighters and EMTs, but they also become part of a nationally recognized youth development program that emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and community service. This partnership ensures participants are developing both professionally and personally as they prepare for future careers.
